Important: As of February 22nd, 2022, United States (U.S.) carriers have started turning down certain 3G/HSPA networks. As a result, customers using U.S. roaming add-ons will be impacted by differences in coverage or service quality (including 9-1-1 calls) when roaming in the U.S. Customers may also experience changes to services such as welcome messages, voicemail notifications, usage notifications for voice, notifications when trying to make an international call as well as the ability to set up voicemail while in the U.S. This shutdown will not impact your service in Canada.
Check out our FAQs to learn how this will affect your Koodo Prepaid roaming service in the U.S. (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands):
FAQS: US 3G/HSPA NETWORK SHUT DOWN
Which Koodo Prepaid services will be affected?
Today, customers are able to enjoy the combined coverage area of AT&T and T-mobile 3G/HSPA networks when roaming in the U.S.
Following the AT&T 3G/HSPA network shutdown on February 22, 2022, when roaming in the U.S. (including Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands), some customers with U.S. roaming add-ons traveling to the United States may be impacted by differences in coverage for the following:
- voice calls
- accessing voicemail
- receiving notifications, text messages, or data
Customers may also experience changes to services such as:
- welcome messages
- voicemail notifications
- usage notifications for voice
- notifications when trying to make an international call
- the ability to set up voicemail while in the U.S.
Service quality might also be impacted, including service for 9-1-1 calls.
Can I continue to use my Koodo Prepaid service in Canada?
Absolutely. The US 3G/HSPA network shutdowns will not impact your Koodo Prepaid service in Canada.
Can I use Voice over Long-Term Evolution (VoLTE) roaming calling in the U.S.?
VoLTE can’t be used at this time, because it’s not yet enabled for Koodo Prepaid. The Koodo Prepaid team is working hard to launch VoLTE capabilities on our network soon.
If I purchase or use a new Voice over Long-Term Evolution (VoLTE)-capable device with my Koodo Prepaid service, will I be able to use VoLTE in the U.S.?
VoLTE is not yet enabled for Koodo Prepaid. In the future, once VoLTE capability is launched on the Koodo Prepaid network, a VoLTE-capable device will be required to roam in the US.

Prepaid Canada-wide calling
If calling isn’t included in your plan, you’ll need to purchase a Canada-wide Talk Booster® add-on to make calls.
If you have a Province-wide plan and want to make a call outside of your province, you’ll have to purchase a Canada-wide Talk Booster add-on. Here’s how Province-wide plans work:
- If your province is Ontario, you can make or receive calls within Ontario with a Province-wide plan
- If you’re visiting another province, you can also call anyone within that province, but won’t be able to receive calls while in another province without a Canada-wide Talk Booster add-on
If you’ve got a Canada-Wide Plan, Canada-wide Talk Booster® add-on to make calls aren’t necessary.
Canada-wide calling means you can make outgoing calls to any number within Canada with no provincial restrictions. You’ll still receive all incoming calls across Canada, regardless of the province they’re from.
If you’re travelling to another province, you can make Canada-wide calls while you’re there. You’ll still receive unlimited incoming calls and will be able to call your home province while travelling without the need to get a Booster add-on.
To purchase a Long Distance Talk Booster add-on, follow these steps:
