Call Control helps reduce unwanted calls by prompting incoming callers to enter a randomly-generated number (0-9), which the caller must enter correctly before the call can be connected. Callers with no response (e.g. robo-dialers) or an incorrect response won’t be able to complete the call and will hear a standard Call Control message instead.
This feature also lets you manage preferences and maintain lists of Authorized and Blocked Callers.
Call Control is free and optional. You can turn it on or off whenever you like.
How do I add the Call Control feature? You can add Call Control through Self Serve. Login to your account and under the Self Serve tab, go to “Mobile services,” find “Call Control,” and click “Manage.” This will route you to the Call Control page where you will be able to add Call Control to your account and turn it on and off.
How do I add phone numbers to my Authorized and Blocked Callers list? When you turn on Call Control, you can assign, add, or remove phone numbers from your Authorized and Blocked Callers lists. There are a few ways to do this:
- Through your Call Log, you will see your 10 most recent incoming callers and can assign them to either your Authorized Callers list or your Blocked Callers list.
- You can go to your Authorized Callers and Blocked Callers lists directly and choose to add or remove phone numbers from your lists.
- You can move a phone number from your Blocked list to your Authorized list and vice versa.
What happens when I add a phone number to my Authorized Callers list? Callers in your Authorized Callers list will not be asked to answer the numerical prompt when they call you - they’ll get connected directly to you.
What happens when I add a phone number to my Blocked Callers list? Callers in your Blocked Callers list won’t have their calls completed and will get a standard Call Control message.
How many phone numbers can I add to my Authorized Callers list and Blocked Callers list? You can add 25 phone numbers to your Authorized Callers list and 25 phone numbers to your Blocked Callers list.
If an incoming caller enters the correct number, will they be presented with a numerical prompt the next time they call? Call Control will remember your most recent incoming calls, so these callers will not be prompted to enter a number, unless it’s been a long period since they called. To ensure your trusted and most frequent callers don’t get prompted to enter a randomly-generated number each time they call you, please add these phone numbers to your Authorized Callers list.
If an incoming caller enters an incorrect number, will they be presented with a numerical prompt when they call again, or will they get the standard Call Control message? Yes, if incoming callers enter an incorrect number, they’ll be prompted again to enter one of the randomly-generated numbers. If they enter the number incorrectly a second time, they can call back and try again.
To keep unwanted callers away, add them to your Blocked Callers list.
What if there are some robo-dialers or other callers that I want to be able to get a hold of me, but I’m concerned they won’t be able to pass the challenge? For example: family members, school office, doctor’s office, etc). Please add these phone numbers to your Authorized Callers list to prevent them from being prompted to enter a randomly-generated number.
