Frequently asked questions
The right speed for your household depends on the number of devices connected to your network and the activities you’ll be doing online:
- __For emailing and browsing:__ Consider our lower-speed plans (50 to 100 Mbps).
- __For streaming HD and 4K videos, video conferencing, online gaming, and photo syncing:__ Consider plans in the 100-250 Mbps range (especially if you have multiple people connected at once) or our higher speed plans (400 Mbps up to 1 Gbps)
__Note:__ The total speed for your home is shared across each connected device at any given time, including computers, smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, gaming consoles, printers, Wi-Fi hotspots/range extenders, smart home devices (e.g. cameras/speakers), and smart appliances.
Maximum speeds require optimal network conditions on a wired connection. Internet access speeds may vary depending on location, usage within the home network, Internet traffic, applicable network management, or server configurations. Concurrent data streams, including combinations of uploads and downloads, may be required to access maximum speeds. Maximum speeds may not be achievable using a single device.
__Download speed__ refers to how quickly you can receive data from the internet, like when you’re browsing websites or streaming music/videos.
__Upload speed__ refers to how quickly you can send data to the internet, like when you’re using high-quality video conferencing (e.g. Skype/FaceTime), uploading large files, or gaming.
